Assistant Registrar & Preparator


kurimanzutto new york is currently seeking an Assistant Registrar & Preparator. This is a full-time position to be assumed immediately. Assistant Registrar will be responsible for a wide range of duties, related to execution of exhibitions / installations, artwork inventory, off-site storage, occasional production of artwork, and daily gallery management.

Position hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00am – 6:00pm, with additional hours for openings and events as needed. Salary is commensurate with experience.

  • Coordinate internal and external movement of works within the gallery inventory. Maintain efficient communication related to transport of art work, including artists studios, shipping companies, local institutions, warehouses and collectors for sold works.

  • Coordinate appropriate packing, crating, and storage of works.

  • Prepare condition reports when necessary (Articheck or similar program).

  • Create and oversee consignments and loans between kurimanzutto new york and local institutions.

  • Coordinate delivery of work internally and with sold clients, soliciting local estimates, and ensuring work arrives safely and in good conditions.

  • Oversee and participates in the installation/de-installation of all exhibitions, outside projects, and viewings. Work with the Director to coordinate all phases of planning and implementation.

  • Research, coordinate and supervise exhibition production, such as framing artworks, plinth production, or AV equipment rental with appropriate contractors.

  • Collaborate closely with Directors to create budgets with relationship to various projects.

  • Assist with the coordination of events and outside projects related to kurimanzutto new york.

  • Supervise events in the gallery, i.e. openings, peformances, lectures, etc .

Daily Duties

  • Daily maintenance of gallery, overseeing cleanliness and organization of the physical space and common areas.

  • Maintains and organizes inventory of packing supplies and related hardware and coordinates timely purchase of required supplies.

  • Supervise daily display of artwork, and light art handling, such as packing and preparing small-scale works for transport.

  • Work closely with Directors, Registrar & Archivist, and general communication with various departments and staff of kurimanzutto Mexico City.

  • 2-3 years of previous gallery or museum experience, especially within exhibition planning, preparation, conservation, or art management background.

  • Working knowledge of museum standards for packing, crating, installing, art handling, and housing artworks, alongside general knowledge of customs and art market.

  • Working knowledge of ArtBase (or equivalent inventory management system), Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (Spanish is a plus but not necessary).

  • Dedicated, motivated individuals who are hands on, hard-working team players, with positive people skills, and aptitude for problem solving are preferred.
