Penrith Performing & Visual Arts is seeking an experienced manager for a temporary but critical senior role during a review and recruitment period. The contract will be for a period of three to six months, with a possibility of extension to twelve months and commencing preferably in December 2018 and certainly no later than 1 February 2019.

We are seeking a well-rounded manager interested in the challenge of delivering a robust artistic program and supporting and leading staff during a period of reflection following almost 40 years of continuous operation, significant recent infrastructure improvements and a rapidly changing local context in a new period of growth. Artistic networks and industry knowledge as well as significant management skills a distinct advantage.

The Gallery includes four on site exhibition spaces, a collection store, two large group teaching studios and is set amidst an artist designed heritage garden. It includes a small shop and busy on site café (operated under licence). PP&VA also operates the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre incorporating Penrith Conservatorium and Q Theatre. A company limited by guarantee and a controlled entity of Penrith City Council (its principal funding partner), PP&VA also receives funding through Create NSW through a multi-year agreement and relies on considerable earned and contributed income.

Requirements
  • The Interim Director will lead the on-site team at Penrith Regional Gallery in Emu Plains and ensure programming is delivered to plan, budget and deadline whilst also ensuring the evolution of exhibition, education and public programs; and audience development.

  • The Interim Director will be supported by the executive, venue, business and marketing teams located both on site and at The Joan and will report to the CEO, PP&VA.

  • With well-developed financial and leadership skills, the Interim Director will apply their considerable expertise to ensure a smooth operating environment with continued alignment with organisational objectives, policies and procedures.

  • The Interim Director will work with the staff and broader leadership team to progress reporting and strategic and artistic planning as required during tenure.
