Lyon College invites applications for an artist in residence with an emphasis on ceramic and three-dimensional visual art beginning August 2019. The position is an up to two-year, non-tenured teaching appointment. An MFA in ceramics or sculpture and a record of notable creative output is required.

Lyon College is located in Batesville, Arkansas, a safe and historic town of 10,000 that serves as commercial, medical, social, and governmental hub for an eight-county area and named by USA Today as the best city to live in in Arkansas. The College currently enrolls almost 700 undergraduate students from 24 states and 15 foreign countries. Entering freshmen have an average high school GPA of 3.5 and an average ACT composite of 24 and SAT score of 1117.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include maintaining regular studio practice, teaching ceramics and introduction to visual arts courses (four courses per year), maintaining the newly acquired Kilted Kiln studio space, and fostering artistic growth on campus and in the local community. Additional responsibilities will include installation of exhibitions of two gallery spaces on campus and aiding the art program in recruitment of prospective students.

Requirements

Prior gallery experience preferred. An understanding of and desire to be at a small, selective liberal arts college is essential. Applicants must have strong professional experience and an active exhibition record. The artist in residence will be provided with studio space, on-campus housing, an exhibition opportunity, and salary. Extra income opportunity and community involvement is optional with teaching of community pottery workshops. The Lyon College Kilted Kiln studio space is located in downtown Batesville on Main Street and in addition to a college instructional space it also serves the local community through ongoing workshops.
