The Public Theater seeks a Video Supervisor to manage the Video Department and oversee the execution of all video and projections effects for Public Theater productions. The department manages video effects for mainstage productions and developmental projects in The Public’s Astor Place home and other locations as needed. The Video Supervisor reports to the Associate Director of Production, manages a part time seasonal Assistant Video Supervisor, and hires and manages freelance video technicians and operators as production requirements demand. The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of current theatrical video technology and practice, experience managing teams on multiple projects, and enthusiasm for negotiating the challenges of Broadway caliber designs and off-Broadway budgets.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the work of the video department in executing the video design for each project in accordance with the artistic goals of the project and the available resources.

  • Collaborate with designers, directors, production managers, and other production staff on each project to ensure a successful design process, an achievable design, and successful execution.

  • Ensure designers have accurate technical information necessary for their designs, evaluate the cost and feasibility of each video design, and negotiate modifications when needed to ensure the design can be achieved successfully and safely with available resources.

  • Negotiate and manage equipment rental and purchasing.

  • Plan and supervise the assembly, load-in, focus, tech, operation, and maintenance of all video equipment for each production.

  • Manage video budgets and maintain budget projections for each production

  • Oversee the recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of all video department freelance labor, including production video, load-in crew, and run crew.

  • Actively support The Public’s commitments to safety, diversity, and respect in the workplace.

Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of theatrical video design, technology, process, and practice, including applicable electrical standards and codes.

  • Aptitude for creative technical and artistic problem solving.

  • Dedication to workplace safety including best practices in electrical safety, theatrical rigging, and working at height.

  • Dedication to fostering a respectful and inclusive work environment.

  • Clear verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing and unpredictable schedules.

  • Ability to manage teams and foster both team and individual growth among employees.

  • Facility with Vectorworks, Office, video production and playback software including Watchout.

  • Proven budget management skills.
