The part-time Gallery Attendant plays a vital role in Locust Projects’ visitor experience. Reporting directly to the Gallery Manager, the Gallery Attendant serves as the first point of contact at Locust Projects; persons in this position warmly welcome all guests equally and provide visitors with information about the current and upcoming artists and exhibitions and general background about Locust Projects and our mission as well as general knowledge of the surrounding arts organizations and the amenities in our Design District neighborhood. The Gallery Attendant also monitors the safety and security of the exhibition and art on display; provides light administrative support including website updates, calendar notices, filing and archiving, and other office duties; maintains tidiness of the public spaces and restrooms; and helps to promote and conduct sales of memberships, special event tickets, artist editions and other available. An ideal candidate will display initiative, good judgement, responsibility, customer service and social skills, and a passion for contemporary art and artists.
Must be available to work from 11am to 5pm on Saturdays; responsible for opening and closing of galleries
Must have flexible availability to work 2-3 times per month during evening and weekend programming, including but not limited to special events, fundraisers, exhibition openings, and public programs
Greet visitors upon arrival and direct visitors to exhibitions and related materials
Be friendly, open and available to answering questions and provide additional information about exhibitions, artists, the organization, and programming
Monitor exhibitions and art to ensure protection of work/objects
Insure print materials are stocked for exhibitions and programs
Process sales of membership, editions, other merchandise, and special event tickets
Report any incidents or potential safety concerns to appropriate staff immediately
Answer phones and forward messages to the appropriate parties
Assist with receiving deliveries
​Perform administrative office duties as assigned
Associate’s degree preferred
Knowledge and understanding of art gallery, cultural facility or museum environments
Excellent organizational and written and oral communication skills
Ability to interact positively with all guests and provide excellent customer service
Must be able to understand and comply with organization rules and policies
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening, weekend and holiday assignments
Must work well as a member of the Locust team as well as be self-motivated and responsible in unsupervised setting
Must have a reliable source of transportation
Knowledge and experience with MAC computers, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, POS systems and processing financial transactions
Customer service experience preferred
