Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Accountant is responsible for all accounts payable functions for the Hammer Museum. Date Available: Immediately

Responsibilities

Major accounts payable functions include processing purchase orders and invoices; cutting checks and initiating wire payments; vendor management; performing related accounting procedures; overseeing proper storage and retention of accounting records; and assisting with the annual audit by providing copies of transactions that the auditors request to see. This position will also work closely with the Senior Accountant to cross-train and understand account receivable and revenue reconciliations.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with general accounting procedures, including accounts payable and all related activities.

Required

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Required

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word; strong proficiency with Excel.

Required

  • Strong mathematical skills to compute and post figures rapidly and accurately.

  • Advanced skills and experience working with automated accounting system software. Experience working with Blackbaud FinancialEdge preferred.

  • Ability to review financial documents within the scope of assigned tasks for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards.

  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques to research, identify, and resolve accounting issues and reconcile items. Excellent critical thinking skills to solve problems; ability to discreetly and tactfully deal with sensitive and confidential information.

  • Organization skills to prioritize job duties and handle multiple assignments simultaneously; ability to perform job with frequent interruptions and competing priorities without sacrificing accuracy.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and apply initiative to complete work in a timely and accurate manner under conditions of fluctuating workload and deadlines.

  • Ability to write effective routine business correspondence. Possession of practical oral communication skills to convey information accurately and diplomatically.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Museum staff, University staff, vendors, various campus entities and professional contacts. Ability to maintain a service-oriented attitude in difficult situations.

  • Physical abilities to perform all core functions and duties including but not limited to the ability to talk; hear; manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and perform heavy data entry; ability to view a computer monitor for long periods.
