Nino Mier Gallery is seeking an experienced, highly motivated art handler/preparator for a full time position, as well as freelancers for periodic work. Reporting to the Head Preparator and Head Registrar, this position is responsible for all aspects of exhibition installation and deinstallation, packing of artwork for storage and transit, local deliveries to & pickups from clients and vendors, and general gallery maintenance and upkeep. This role requires attention to detail, ability to take and follow instructions precisely, and great follow-through. Schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 10AM - 6PM, with some flexibility required.
PACKING
Soft packing & hard packing, including: slipcases, collars, shadowboxes, crating, t-framing, cavity packing; and common carrier-appropriate packing, including Masterpaks.
Working knowledge of all packing materials & methods and ability to discern the most appropriate method per artwork.
Skillful handling of works on paper, prints, books, and other delicate objects
INSTALL / DEINSTALL
Knowledge of a wide spectrum of different installation methods, hardware, tools, and best handling practices for painting, sculpture, ceramics
Familiarity with installation-based artwork
Experience with proper handling methods for fragile materials and surfaces
TRANSPORTATION & CLIENT DELIVERY
Polite, professional demeanor when delivering to & installing in clients’ homes
Proper loading/unloading methods for company sprinter van and other vehicles
Experienced & comfortable driving/parking large vehicles
ORGANIZATION/GALLERY UPKEEP
Meticulous approach to organization according to gallery protocols & standards
Acumen for inventory tracking/management
Keeping neat work areas and awareness of needed supplies
Attention to and responsibility for general gallery appearance (repairs, painting, maintenance, etc.)
3+ years of experience art handling experience (preferably at a gallery, art shipper, or museum)
Ability to lift 75+ lbs
Basic woodworking skills
Experience with Artlogic a plus
Willingness to travel for art fairs, etc. when necessary
