The Assistant Groundskeeper assists the Ground Crew Chief in maintaining the grounds, lawn plantings, shrubs, walks, drives and parking ramp, and with building maintenance as needed. This position has seasonal hours: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the summer months and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. the remainder of the year.

Responsibilities
  • Perform landscape and grounds maintenance including but not limited to mowing, edging, blowing, trimming, sweeping, cleaning, shoveling and snow removal.

  • Operate and maintain ground equipment, including but not limited to, sweepers, mowers, snow throwers, snow plowing equipment, weed whippers, edgers, hedge trimmers, grounds tractors, bobcat, sweeper and vehicles.

  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, drives, lot and parking ramp.

  • Perform parking ramp cleaning and maintenance.

  • Assist with building maintenance duties as needed, including semi-skilled carpentry, painting, and moving desks, furniture or other items.

  • Work extra hours before or after scheduled shift and for on-call hours and weekend works, primarily during snow removal season.

Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.

  • Three to five years of grounds keeping and landscaping experience.

  • Valid Driver’s License, satisfactory motor vehicle record check, and DOT license(s) as required.

  • Great attention to detail and strong organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Ability to be self-guided and work independently as needed.

  • Working knowledge of irrigation systems.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work in extremely cold or hot weather conditions.

  • Mechanical aptitude and/or small engine and some vehicle maintenance and repair experience.

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills a plus.
