BOMB Magazine, the New York-based publisher of conversations between artists of all disciplines, seeks a Managing Editor. This editor will work closely with the Senior Editor, Editor in Chief, and Associate Editor on all aspects of the print quarterly magazine and coordinate with online editors, designers, development staff, marketing, and other departments. This is a full-time staff position with health insurance.
The ideal candidate is an editor/writer with a broad knowledge of and commitment to the literary and art worlds. At least five years of professional experience is a must. The candidate needs to be a team player with a broad and inclusive vision, who can roll up their sleeves and work side by side with artists and writers to deliver the artist’s voice.
Proposing and planning content for print issues as a member of the editorial team—including special oversight of literary interviews, fiction, poetry, and essays;
Soliciting, commissioning, editing, and proofing a significant portion of content for print publication;
Attending readings, fairs, press previews, and other events outside of the office; keeping abreast of upcoming events, publications, and releases—especially in literature and theater.
Coordinating with web editors to align publishing goals, shared features, and online supplements to the print magazine;
Overseeing annual literary contests, in coordination with the Associate Editor;
Attending staff and interdepartmental meetings—circulation, marketing, and development—to facilitate communication and mutual support;
Providing up-to-date information about editorial content to all staff members, particularly for promotions and grant reports.
At least five years of professional experience is a must.
