SUMMARY:
Catalogers assist the Fine Jewelry Department by examining, evaluating, and describing jewelry for over 65 auctions held annually. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to handle antique, estate, and period jewelry and experience the dynamic auction industry.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Proficiency in identifying gemstones and diamonds using tools provided; microscope, polariscope, refractometer, etc.
Ability to test and adequately identify metal
Proficiency in calculating weights of mounted diamonds/gemstones
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically Word and Excel
Excellent writing and/or cataloging skills
Ability to follow assigned formats
Strong researching skills in a high-production environment
Demonstrated prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in previews, including setup and teardown.
Assist with Social Media posts
Assist with inquiries
Appraisal skills are helpful but not required
Other duties may be assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
1+ years of related experience preferred
Background in ancient history is ideal
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically Outlook and Excel
Ability to multitask and pay great attention to detail
Knowledge of other areas of numismatics a plus
