Ceramic Studio Operations / Shipping & Receiving Associate


Who we are:

Founded in 2008 by artist Bari Ziperstein, BZIPPY is known for our experimentation and innovation with ceramics. Working tirelessly to develop engineering methods that challenge conventional notions of slab construction, BZIPPY devises creative solutions to both formal designs and technical concerns.

The setting for this position is within an 4,500 sq ft artist studio in northeast LA that houses the creation, fabrication and sale of ceramic sculpture. With seven full time employees, the studio is a business first and an artist studio second - we offer up to 40 hours per week plus a full benefit package that includes health insurance.

COVID-19 Protocols:

We are is strictly adhering to local guidelines. Masks (KN95) are mandatory at all times, PPE is provided, sanitation and cleaning are closely monitored, and studio team members are distanced at their own work stations in well-ventilated studio warehouse.

Position Overview:

The studio is looking for a full time Operations and Shipping & Receiving Associate seeking full time hours, with the skills and abilities to work in a small but growing studio environment. The Operations and Shipping & Receiving Associate position includes duties related to operations, inventory management, photography, wrapping and packing fragile ceramic art objects, and overseeing all studio shipments.



  • Wrapping fragile ceramic artworks (small and large)

  • Packing boxes

  • Packing crates

  • Shipping samples

  • Overseeing all order domestic, international, and freight orders

  • Communicating w/ third party logistics

  • Scheduling and tracking all white glove, domestic carrier and freight shipments

  • Maintain documentation of all shipments

  • Supply inventory management

  • Tracking costs


  • Quality control of finished works for all outgoing orders

  • Organizing physical inventory

  • Inventory management via internal systems

  • Photographs all inventory shelves to ensure safety of works from theft or breakage

  • Works with leads to maintain, improve and develop inventory technology as needed


  • Photography / documentation of all new products and fine art

  • Develop and manage an archive of photography - website, dropbox, etc.

  • Develops database entry for all artworks, tracks all consignments of artworks at galleries and exhibitions

  • Communicate with galleries / museums related to image needs

  • Develop and manage an archive of photography - Wordpress, Dropbox, etc.

  • Data entry - Wordpress, Quickbooks, Salesforce, Google Sheets, Dropbox


Ideal Candidates:

  • Have prior experience working with data or e-commerce management

  • Have prior experience working in a warehouse or related setting and have acquired direct experience with inventory and stock management

  • Have knowledge of best practices for handling fragile objects. Experience where heavy, bulky and breakable items need to be moved and prepared for shipping with a great deal of care and forethought prefered

  • Have knowledge of photography, Photoshop, Lightroom, and image database management and processing

  • Prior gallery, showroom, or e-commerce registrar and/or preparator experience a plus

  • Affinity and appreciation for designed objects and ceramics a plus

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, squat, turn from front to back, turn from side to side, reach above shoulder level, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to perform the above physical activities in excess of 50 pounds with the assistance of another person

  • Must be able to perform a wide-range of physical tasks on a frequent and repetitive basis for extended periods of time while working in a studio environment with cement floors, air conditioning and heat with a dedicated workspace, computer and inventory area

  • Must be able to drive his/her own vehicle which is in good working condition, have a good driving record, and own the minimum requirements for vehicle insurance in California
