Ceramics' Lead
Artist Studio
Contemporary Artist seeking a Ceramics’ Lead based in an artist studio in Los Angeles. The position will be focused on working with the Artist to make ceramics - primarily throwing on a pottery wheel.
Our ideal candidate is flexible and skilled at handling a range of responsibilities, with a willingness to take on new projects and tasks as needed.
4 days a week, Mon-Thurs 10am - 6pm. Salary based on experience, benefits and 401k offered.
Throwing small to large scale vessels, ranging from 2 inches to 36 inches in height. Vessels must be thrown based on the Artist’s specifications of shape and scale.
Firing, glazing, and kiln maintenance (gas and electric).
Knowledge of firing large scale works and developing firing schedules to ensure all pieces are successful.
Overseeing the care, maintenance, handling, and packing of ceramics.
Developing samples of color in clay and glaze per Artist’s specifications.
Managing production and shipping deadlines.
General knowledge of preparatory practices for installing 2D and 3D works.
Extensive knowledge of ceramics (in particular pottery), firing, glazing, kiln maintenance (gas and electric).
Must be able to manage projects efficiently and independently, and to maintain an organized studio practice.
Experience with safely packing and installing 2D and 3D works.
Knowledge of mold-making and basic wood-working is ideal.
Knowledge of foundries and metal casting is ideal.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects simultaneously.
