Community Pottery Studio Tech and Instructor

Good Dirt LA Pottery Studio

We are looking to hire an experienced potter - either an advanced hobbyist with some teaching experience or an experienced instructor for our small, friendly studio in the Del Rey neighborhood (Close to Culver City, Mar Vista and Marina del Rey). The ideal candidate will be extremely reliable, organized, communicative, comfortable working independently in a busy environment, and will approach clients and students at the studio with the same warmth and welcoming attitude they would when hosting guests and friends at home.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teaching 6-week sessions of Beginner and Mixed Levels classes to teens and adults

  • Loading and unloading kilns

  • Mixing glazes

  • Managing the flow of glazing, firing, and connecting finished work with clients who participate in one-time classes and 6-week series classes

  • Communicating with other managers and instructors about studio flow and protocols

  • Keeping the studio space clean and organized

  • Communicating with clients about work pick up

  • Answering questions about glazing and technique from our “Creative Time” potters when working during “Tech on Site” Creative Time shifts

This position is part-time, 20 - 25 hours per week over 4 days. We will work to make sure you have at least two consecutive days off. The hours are usually distributed as 5 - 6 hour shifts between the hours of 9am and 10pm. Shifts usually consist of a combination of both studio tech and instructor responsibilities. The starting hourly rate is $23/hour.

Requirements

Past ceramics experience required. Must be comfortable to teach others.
