JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

About the Wende

The Wende is a nonprofit art museum, historical archive of the Cold War, and center for creative community engagement that explores and inspires change.

Responsibilities Summary

The Wende is looking for a knowledgeable Director of Finance with experience in the non-profit sector. The Director of Finance reports to the Deputy Director. The Director of Finance will lead all financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, overseeing contracts and providing oversight of payroll and benefits administration, for the Museum, the Institute for Archival Research at the Wende and the Glorya Kaufman Creative Community Center (under construction).

Full-time staff position. Location is on-site in a COVID conscious environment.

Pay: $95,000 – 120,000 depending on experience

Responsibilities

Finance

  • Manage $3.5M annual organizational budget

  • Management of accounting and auditing records

  • Responsible for the accounting of revenue (including - pledges), investments, fixed assets and creative community center construction project

  • Prepares journal entries and provides proper supporting documentation

  • Account reconciliation, quarterly close and year-end close activities

  • Manage and forecast cash flow

  • Manage multi-department annual budgeting process and collaborate with department heads to produce all department budgets, including annual and project/grant-specific budgets

  • Produce all organizational annual, quarterly, and department financial reports, including financial reports relating to foundation grants

  • Liaise with outside HR consultants on payroll and payroll reporting

  • Prepare and present financial reports for quarterly meetings of the Board of Directors and the Board’s Finance Committee; Director of Finance is staff liaison with the Finance committee.

  • Oversee endowment transactions and reporting annual independent audit with outside auditor and assist with 990 preparation

  • Oversee production of annual, quarterly, and other tax filings

Corporate & Administrative

  • Manage the museum’s insurance policies, including corporate, property, Directors and Officers, employee medical/dental/vision, and other policies.

  • Liaise with outside HR consultants on health insurance and HR paperwork

  • Produce annual and other corporate and business filings

Management

  • Supervise Accountant
Requirements

Ideal candidate

  • Possesses a positive attitude and ability to look for creative solutions within the structured world of finance

  • Good time management skills and ability to work independently

Skills and Experience

  • Nonprofit accounting experience required

  • Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

  • CPA

  • QB experience preferred

  • Advanced in gmail, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Proficient in - Apple operating systems, Word
