Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College

Direct and manage the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College museum; shape the artistic agenda for curated exhibitions, community, and campus projects in support of the long history of the Fine Arts Center and its future as a cultural beacon. The director plays a vital role in implementing that vision and defining and supporting the organizational culture at the FAC, participates in strategic planning and budgeting; collaborates closely with other departments, faculty, and community entities.

Salary: $68,000.00 - $80,000.00 (Yearly Salary)

  • Curate and create visual arts programming; oversee the design and installation of all exhibitions.

  • Collaborate with the curatorial staff to determine direction for the institution; facilitate exhibitions in support of the mission and goals of the department.

  • Support programming and encourage engagement from various departments at Colorado College and community entities to create projects that are multi-disciplinary or interdisciplinary in nature.

  • Work with the Collections staff to prioritize efficient collections management; support the care, management and relevance of the FAC’s extensive collection of the art of the Americas by advancing collection management initiatives and implementing the legal requirements of NAGPRA.

  • Collaborate with Education staff to support the educational mission of the college and community initiative; facilitate academic engagement with Colorado College, schools, and local artists.

  • Oversee operations of the Museum and manage the department budget with regular reports to and collaboration with the Director of Operations.

  • Participate fully with Advancement by taking part in a full range of activities to support the FAC, including cultivation events and building relationships with individual donors; actively participate in identifying and writing grants for program funding.

  • Actively seek and support opportunities to research and make progress on personal and staff fields of inquiry.

  • Collaborate with Communications and Patron Services to develop and support a broad base of community participation.

  • Lead, supervise, and evaluate the performance of museum staff, establishing goals and strategic planning to achievement of goals.

  • Collaborate with other FAC departments to develop and implement evaluation tools to measure, interpret, and analyze the outcomes of museum and FAC programs.

  • Maintain a visible presence in the local, state, and national professional community and conduct public talks and lectures in areas of expertise.

  • Be an active participant in El Paso County community conversations, working groups and Colorado College initiatives.

  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.

+Demonstrate environmental sustainability by using college resources wisely and supporting the college’s sustainability initiatives and innovation.

+Perform other duties as assigned.


Master’s degree in a Visual Arts field plus museum/arts institution experience of at least 5 years to include supervision of staff; knowledge of best practices of contemporary art institutions; sensitivity to the diversity of the indigenous and historic cultures of the American Southwest, and ability to responsibly engage Native American visitors, as well as representatives from communities from which items in the collection originate; demonstrated leadership and management skills; excellent writing, speaking, organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills; ability to work as a team member across the organization and maintain excellent working relationship with a diverse range of individuals, including staff, faculty, students, volunteers, community partners, and the public with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.
