The National Guild for Community Arts Education (“Guild”) seeks a visionary and highly organized professional to provide leadership, management, and day-to-day oversight of the Guild’s national conference, online learning, and member networks. The Guild is looking for someone who is a life-long learner, possesses a keen intellect and tenacious spirit, and shares our belief in the transformational power of creativity, equity, leadership, and community. The Assistant Director of Learning (“Assistant Director”) will have an opportunity to work with a creative staff and to collaborate with arts education leaders across the country to advance community arts education regionally and nationally.

The Assistant Director of Learning (“Assistant Director”) is a salaried, exempt position reporting to, and partnering with, the Director of Learning and Leadership Development to ensure the Guild’s training and networking activities align with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities to enhance the effectiveness of leaders and organizations within the community arts education field.

As an integral member of the Guild’s five-member program team, the Assistant Director of Learning plays an active role as a thought-partner in planning for the overall advancement of the Guild’s key initiatives.

Responsibilities

National Conference

  • Manage program planning, event organizing, and logistics for the Conference for Community Arts Education, a four-day convening for 700+ delegates across the country

  • Develop strategy for local and regional engagement and lead planning meetings

  • Identify and negotiate appropriate arrangements and contracts with hotel and vendors

  • Collaborate with program team to develop a vision for Conference programming that aligns with Member Network activities and the Guild’s online learning

  • Oversee and manage Networking activities at the conference

  • Prepare interim and follow-up reports (e.g., evaluations, registration)

Member Networks and Chapters

  • Lead strategy to develop the Guild’s Chapters (Northeast and New York Metro) and Member Networks in alignment with the Guild’s mission and programmatic vision

  • Design policies and procedures for recruiting, retaining, and supporting Chapter leadership and Network leadership; identify and onboard network leadership

  • Provide lead content development and production support for Chapter and Member Network events

  • Assign and manage staff liaisons to Chapters and Member Networks

  • Develop tools, resources, and digital platforms for Networks and Chapters that ensure effective program delivery and increase member engagement and peer-to-peer exchange

Guild Online Learning

  • Design and implement a series of year-round virtual trainings and dialogues that advance the Guild’s key initiatives, build on topics and relationships informed by the national conference, and align with the goals and activities of the Guild’s Member Networks.

  • Manage production of online learning series including identifying and contracting speakers

  • Ensure the quality of learning series events and plan and/or troubleshoot to meet yearly revenue goals

  • Work with the Information Resources Manager and Communications Manager to ensure series content and key takeaways are leveraged on the Guild website and in appropriate communications

Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Learning and Leadership Development. Some travel required, including for the annual conference and regional trainings.

Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, professional development, event production, and arts education

  • Ability to design and facilitate training experiences for adult learners required, preferably in the areas of arts, culture, and education

  • Effective program development and project management skills, including ability to be flexible, manage multiple projects with superior attention to detail, and prioritize competing and shifting demands/needs of stakeholders in a highly collaborative environment

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate persuasive arguments in writing and orally to motivate and influence people, and to exercise sound professional judgement in all interactions

  • Ability to effectively and productively contribute to a coherent organizational culture as well as to a collaborative leadership team focused on deepening programmatic impact

  • Consistently strong track-record of reliably creating effective and accurate deliverables/work products in timely fashion to meet deadlines

  • Ability to leverage a data-driven approach to effectively problem-solve across multiple programs
