Exhibitions Technician

The Contemporary Jewish Museum

Position Summary

The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM) seeks an Exhibitions Technician who will work with the Exhibitions team to install, maintain, and de–install exhibitions and installations at The CJM.

This work includes a variety of tasks based on the day and phase of the installation period. Teamwork and good communication are essential. Tasks include, but are not limited to, artwork unpacking, packing, installation and assembly; furniture and mount fabrication; truck packing and offloading; fabricating furniture and unique mounts; wall repair and painting; and assisting artists.

In addition to the installation and de–installation of exhibitions, the Exhibitions Technician will occasionally be scheduled during public hours and private events to provide support. Some weekend work will be expected. For these shifts, the Exhibitions Technician will be the exhibitions point person for all CJM staff, and will assume responsibility for the operation and maintenance of exhibitions, including regular art handling duties and maintaining the audio-visual (A/V) elements of exhibitions. The Exhibitions Technician will be responsible for the overall look and function of all exhibitions during their shift.

Shifts for regular Exhibitions Technician work, and for private events and other special projects will be scheduled by the Director of Exhibitions or Exhibitions Technical Supervisor, on a temporary, part time basis, which means that the Exhibitions Technician may be contacted when opportunities are available and may accept or decline the hours. The part time status does not obligate The CJM to offer hours or obligate the Exhibitions Technician to accept hours offered. Work hours for this position will be variable.
