The Museum of Craft and Design is now seeking to hire one part-time Gallery Ambassador for the following schedules:

  • Wednesday from 9:45 AM to 5:15 PM (temporarily)

  • Thursday from 9:45 AM to 5:15 PM

  • Friday from 9:45 AM to 5:15 PM

  • Saturday from 9:45 AM to 5:15 PM (temporarily)

Applicants should have flexibility with scheduling; occasionally hours are needed outside of this schedule.

The Gallery Ambassador position requires a warm and welcoming demeanor, attention to detail and finesse when balancing guest needs and general museum policies. You will work closely with the Operations and Administrative Manager, the Gallery Ambassador team, and Store Staff to maintain a welcoming and streamlined museum experience.

Compensation begins at $17.00/hr

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Check guest vaccination records when entering the building and monitor for proper mask usage in the facility

  • Proactively monitors and circulates throughout the galleries to guarantee the safety and security of artwork and visitors

  • Actively safeguards art against damage, theft, and vandalism by maintaining a mindful and attentive presence in the galleries

  • Provides visitors with a positive museum experience by answering questions about exhibitions, the museum, events, and membership opportunities while diplomatically upholding museum policies

  • Ensures patron safety by administering emergency procedures when necessary; assists with emergency response situations according to museum policies

  • Promptly reports all unusual or out of the ordinary conditions to supervisor; provides descriptions of potential violators of museum policies, accident reports, and hazardous conditions; approaches guests to remind them of museum policy when necessary

  • Completes Opening and Closing checklists daily including inspection of art and facilities and the monitoring of gallery electronics/ interactive materials; promptly reports concerns to supervisor

Additional Responsibilities

  • Complete hourly disinfection rounds to mitigate the spread of COVID-19

  • Assists with crowd management during large events and tours; available for special off-site events as needed

  • Assists with gallery and visitor evaluations as requested

  • Attends security and emergency procedure trainings as necessary

  • Act as secondary store staff as needed

  • Assists with the set-up and breakdown of equipment for events

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, sound judgment, positive attitude, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Willingness to learn museum policies and calmly respond to emergency procedures

  • Maintains professional and business-like demeanor

  • Remains alert, vigilant, and engaged at all times regardless of work volume fluctuations

  • Ability to work within defined post and stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Prior experience in a museum environment or security role a plus

Working Conditions

  • Standing on concrete floors for long periods of time

  • Walking on concrete floors

  • Walking small flights of stairs

  • Pushing, pulling, bending at the waist
