Simard Bilodeau Contemporary located in Downtown Los Angeles’ Art District is seeking a positive and highly motivated candidate to fill in the position of gallery assistant. The ideal candidate will support the daily tasks in the gallery: preparing art exhibitions and fairs; maintaining the gallery inventory, the website and the online data platforms; packing and shipping artworks; as well as the long-term goals of the gallery and its owners. The position is 3 days a week with the possibility of quickly becoming 4 days a week, Thursdays to Saturday (possibly Wednesdays as well) 11AM to 6PM with the flexibility of being available for evening openings, fairs (Saturdays), collector’s visits by appointment and special events. This position will be a good fit for someone that likes to be hands on and get involved in all aspects of a gallery’s operations.


Open and close the gallery.

Greet gallery visitors and give information about the exhibition and the gallery program.

Maintain the gallery inventory and the website up to date.

Enter data on ArtLogic and Artsy.

Receive, pack and ship artworks.

Assist with coordinating the framing of artworks.

Design invitations, presentations and e-catalogues using the Adobe Suite.

Make 3D mockups for art fair applications.

Participate in the preparation of art exhibitions, art events and art fairs.

Online research.

Participate in the promotion and sale of artworks.

Support the gallery owners in different tasks and assignments.


Completed at least 4 years in art education.

Have at least 2 years’ experience working in a gallery or an art institution.

Proficient: Photoshop, inDesign, ArtLogic, Artsy, Word, Excel, and a 3D Mockup Program.

Excellent written and spoken English. Good curatorial writing skills.

Art sales aptitude and excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge of art and the art market.

Comfortable working within a small team, under the gallery owner’s instructions as well as self-motivated for working alone in the gallery.

Responsible, reliable and professional demeanor.

Pro-active and positive attitude in problem solving, as well as flexible and adaptable.

A sense of aesthetic, detail-oriented as well as excellent organization and communication skills.

Kind, genuine, persevering, eager to learn and hard-working.

The pay scale for this position is $20 to $24 per hour, based on the candidate experience and qualifications.

A commission will be paid to the employee on sales fully generated by the employee.
