The Manager of Interpretive Media oversees the development and production of compelling interpretive media content, managing the production of original audio and video to enrich exhibitions and foreground the Museum’s collection. This pivotal role is charged with producing material that deepens engagement, furthers understanding of the Jewish Museum, its mission and collections, and supports the Museum’s core values by creating content that is accessible, inclusive and welcoming to diverse audiences. Collaborating closely with colleagues across the institution (curatorial, education, collections management), as well as external parties (artists, partners, vendors), the role requires exceptional entrepreneurship, project management, and communication skills. The ideal candidate is someone who can think outside the box and who possesses a strong background in art history, studio art, and/or museum teaching.


● Serve as lead project manager for the production of interpretive audio, video, and text featured on the Jewish Museum’s mobile platform, including creating production timelines and overseeing the development of necessary assets

● Serve as an advocate for Museum audiences, striving to create interpretive content that is welcoming and inclusive for all visitors, with an emphasis on access and inclusion

● Collaborate with the curatorial team to articulate intended audiences and key interpretive goals for select exhibitions

● Work with outside content partners on development of tour outlines and scripts for mobile tours and actively participate in the editing and proofing of exhibition and promotional texts for clarity, accessibility, and accuracy

● Hire and manage freelance consultants, including editors, artists, producers, and videographers

● Ensure to the best of their ability accuracy of all content, as well as consistency with the Museum’s brand and institutional voice, and coordinate with internal Creative Studio to ensure that graphic elements align with the Museum’s visual identity

● Work closely with Marketing, Digital, and Communications teams to find opportunities to leverage content across the Museum’s other platforms, including Web, advertising, media relations, and social media

● Work with the Museum’s Digital Asset Manager to ensure that audio and video assets are uploaded and metadata is tagged, ensuring accessibility and usability by staff across the Museum

● Manage budgets across both programming and audio content related to the scope of the project, including selection and payment of additional vendors to support object photography, video production, motion graphics, animation, etc.

● Assisting with pre- and post-program materials, including creating and tracking letters of agreement and processing payment forms

● Gather and organize program statistics for Museum reports

● Additional responsibilities as assigned


● Minimum of 3-4 years relevant professional experience; Bachelor’s degree in art, art history, museum education, history, creative writing, film studies, journalism or other relevant field preferred

● Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills; able to communicate diplomatically with both technical and non-technical staff, as well as subject-matter experts in a variety of fields

● A commitment to the principles of DEAI and a desire to create content that appeals to a broad and diverse audience

● Strong editorial or storytelling skills; experience in a producer role preferred

● Strong research and organizational skills required; ability to handle and prioritize detailed projects simultaneously and carry them through to completion

● Tech savvy; facile at learning and utilizing new applications and platforms. Image/photo editing experience (Adobe suite); basic knowledge of HTML; familiarity with audio and video editing preferred.
