An established contemporary art gallery in Chelsea seeks a Photography and Archival Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing a wide range of imaging for circulation, which will require expert level proficiency with Photoshop and Adobe Suite, as well as familiarity with video-editing software. Possession of strong organizational skills, including past exposure to website content management systems and gallery databases, is necessary. The successful coordinator will have knowledge of contemporary art, standard gallery practices, and experience in supportive roles. They will be precise, self-motivated, attentive to detail, visually acute, efficient and have a demonstrated ability to prioritize among competing tasks. Verbal communication skills and the ability to work closely and cooperatively within a team are essential.
General
Respond to rights and reproduction and licensing requests for image inquiries related to publications and scholarly materials, working in collaboration with licensing organizations such as ARS and VAGA
Update artist CVs, bibliographies and narrative biographies with institutional and gallery exhibitions as per directions from Directors; update website
Under direction from the sales team, generate sales PDFs and Artlogic Private Views for exhibition previews, art fairs, and individual offers following the gallery’s style guide
Manage, edit and produce gallery exhibition catalogs with freelance designer, in consultation with Directors and Press Associate
Imaging:
Organize photography of gallery art works and installation views
Work closely with Registrars and Preparators to set up photography sessions
Edit and retouch images as needed using Photoshop
Organize image files according to gallery naming, resizing, and organizational conventions
Upload images and videos to Artlogic and disseminate to artist studios and sales team and communications department
Diligently update installation images and related exhibition materials from third party institutions for artists’ and gallery archives
Archival and Administrative support:
Scan slides, research individual artworks, update archival documents with new information
Act as point person for research visits
Provide support to Front Desk as needed
Experience in a supporting role at a gallery, museum or comparable arts organization
Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art or related degree
Familiarity with contemporary art and a strong interest in the gallery’s program
Expert knowledge of Photoshop, Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office
Familiarity with photography post-production and video editing software
Experience using website CMS and Artlogic or other gallery databases
Poised and friendly demeanor
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work closely and cooperatively within a team
Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
