Summary Statement:

Jackson Fine Art is seeking a full time preparator and artwork installer. Ideal candidates will work well under pressure, respond to the aesthetic needs of exhibition production, and be sensitive to the unique demands of a commercial gallery setting. This position works closely in tandem with the Shipping Manager, but is called upon by multiple departments in the gallery on a daily basis; the ability to multi-task and prioritize is a must.

Responsibilities
  • Safely handle art using best practices.

  • Execute all local client deliveries and installation.

  • Assist in client presentations, safely and professionally handling and presenting artwork to clients intuitively and in real time.

  • Understand how to properly load/unload a truck and keep artwork secure and stable during transport; ensure artwork is stored safely. Experience in archival wrapping and secure packing techniques, including packing and unpacking of crates is preferred.

  • Safely and responsibly drive the Mercedes Sprinter carrying property of high value.

  • Preparation of exhibition spaces for 5-6 exhibitions annually, to include pathing and painting, lighting design, signage ordering and installation (with directors), maintaining a pristine show environment, etc.

  • Installing/de-installing of exhibition spaces.

  • Eye for the day-to-day aesthetics of the gallery, ensuring that the space is clean and stocked.

  • Care and storage of inventory; tidying and organizing artwork and assisting sales staff in preparing follow up actions where needed.

  • Transportation of artworks to and from storage facilities and orderly maintenance of off-site storage.

  • Management of USPS account and shipment of client gifts.

  • With Shipping Manager, management of daily and weekly shipped / received / delivered reports.

  • Professionally and discreetly interface with high-end clients and assist sales team with presentations and sales while on-site at client homes.

Requirements

Work Schedule:

This position is full-time, 40+ hours/week, Tuesday – Friday, 9 — 5:30pm, and Saturdays 9:30am — 5:00pm. In addition to the regular gallery hours outlined above, exhibition openings, public events, client visits, art fairs, and installations occasionally result in an extended work day or evening hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Skilled with hand and power tools.

  • Ability to lift minimum of 50 lbs.

  • Extremely detail-oriented and capable of taking responsibility for assigned tasks.

  • Can maintain organized, non-cluttered work environment, and creatively adapt to space limitations.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Proficiency in inventory management systems, Google platforms, Microsoft Office, Adobe, and other standard office procedures and equipment.

Preferred:

  • Light carpentry and framing.

  • Experience with Artlogic and / or familiarity with industry-specific databases.
