Studio Manager and Art Making Assistant

The Studio of Tabitha Soren is seeking an organized, self-directed individual to manage the day-to-day activities of a busy arts studio. This includes working directly with Tabitha and subcontractors to complete tasks in a timely manner. Prior art making and artwork handling experience is desired, as is the ability to work on your own. An interest in the arts is also strongly encouraged.

Hours: 24 hours per week (3 days), starting ASAP

Location: Berkeley, California

Compensation to reflect experience


*Assisting in all art-making: prepping files for photographs as well as 3D printing, refining ideas and making prototypes, supervising production of objects and printing as well as printing in the studio.

*Assisting on pre-production of shoots and sometimes, assisting during the shoots as well.

*Scheduling: exhibitions, production & shipping timelines, studio visits, travel equipment for Tabitha & artwork installers, etc.

*Delegating tasks & overseeing production to keep large & small-scale projects on schedule/budget – ordering supplies, vendor communication, accounts payable/receivable.

*Registrar/Preparator: preparing, packing, and shipping delicate artworks nationally & internationally to clients and exhibitions. Completing condition reports of out- and in-bound artworks. Archiving artwork info in database, as well as physical archive of artwork parts.

*Shipping/Receiving/ Mailing Lists: in addition to artworks, there is a constant flow of supplies & orders coming in and going out of the studio via FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc. There is also a constant updating of all mailing lists which need to be free of typos, thorough and without duplicates.

*Inventory: keeping accurate records (for internal & external purposes) & levels of items on hand - artworks, parts of artworks, crates, tools, etc.

*Records Management: lists of available & sold artworks, collector information, artwork database, artwork parts spreadsheets, exhibits, creating new archival/organizational systems as necessary.


*Ability to work under pressure & multi-task

*Manage short-term and long-term scheduling & tasks and to be flexible when priorities suddenly change

*Highly organized & detail-oriented

*Professional, courteous, and clear communication skills (verbal & written)

*Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite/ Adobe Creative Suite/ 3D printing

*Prior registrar/preparator/artwork handling or similar experience a plus

*Ability to work with resin, acrylic paint, mediums, varnishes, encaustic paint

*Prior fabrication experience required

*Knowledge about making molds for resin would be a plus
