Temporary Studio Assistant

Long Island City-based artist is seeking a highly motivated studio assistant to work on site from 10am to 6pm, for four days a week starting September 19th, 2024 through EOY 2024. Working closely with the Artist and Production Manager, the Studio Assistant will provide support in the creation of artworks ranging from sculpture, performance, to sound installation. This will be performed in tandem with general upkeep of the studio’s workspaces.

Basic knowledge of casting, mold-making, wood working, and metalworking will be needed.

Attention to detail and the ability to work independently as well as with a team is a must.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with casting and mold-making

  • Perform basic woodworking and metalworking

  • Clean and maintain shop spaces

  • Inventory and maintain supply of fabrication materials

Requirements
  • Experience with, and comfort in mold-making and casting using Polyurethane and Epoxy based resin

  • Experience with, and comfort in using hand and power tools for both wood and metal (MIG/TIG welding is a plus)

  • Must be able to lift heavy boxes and objects (50lbs plus)

  • Ability to provide support in researching and sourcing materials

  • Proactive and capable in working independently to solve problems at hand

  • Clear and efficient communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills for filing, data entry, and archiving

  • Basic knowledge of Mac and PC operating systems including Microsoft office and Google Workspace a must.

  • Knowledge of Adobe Suite a plus although not necessary.
