Downing Frames is looking for an experienced Woodshop Manager who is detail-oriented, and a strategic problem solver to join our team. Specializing in custom-made, handmade frames, Downing Frames delivers top-tier products out of their Long Island City location.

You are a solid team player who is able to work and communicate effectively in a fast-paced, tight deadline environment. You must be a proven leader with proven management experience.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee Woodshop production and daily operations

  • Keep staff on task, meet schedule requirements and maintain quality

  • Collaborate with management members to maintain workflow of products to move to the next steps in production

  • Develop and maintain equipment requirements to achieve growth targets over the near term and to improve safety and productivity

  • Stay current on equipment and technology available that meet the agreed investment criteria

  • Develop simple, real-time metrics to measure productivity and determine if the team is on schedule

  • Manage inventories and suppliers, ensuring quality standards on-time deliveries and cost targets are met

  • Participate in management discussions and planning sessions for the future success of the company

  • Train new team members and veteran employees

  • Discuss team and staff issues with HR as needed

  • Must lead by example

  • Oversee cleaning of the shop area

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills

  • Past experience with woodworking equipment a must

  • General knowledge of measurements and fractions

  • Understanding of woodworking equipment

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Flexibility to respond to unscheduled situations (worker absence or temporary re-assignment, machine repair/downtime)

  • Communicate effectively with their team and other colleagues
