Peter Freeman, Inc., an established contemporary art gallery also specializing in important works by Pop and Minimal artists, is seeking to fill the position of a Senior Director.
Responsibilities include:
sales of both primary and secondary market art
generate and build relationships with collectors, other galleries, and museums
manage artist and estate relationships for the gallery
exhibition development, art fair planning, and strategic planning
oversight and coordination of director team
other projects as assigned
The applicant must have a proven record in sales, client development, and procuring consignments in addition to an established client base. The candidate should have previously held a senior-level position for at least 5 to 7 years at a leading gallery or auction house, as well as a thorough understanding of art history and contemporary markets in the US and Europe. As the gallery has an international client base, candidates with additional languages, particularly French and German, are preferred and travel is required.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and an art database program are also required. A proactive, team-oriented approach is essential, though the ability to work independently is equally important. BA required; MA in Art History preferred. Salary commensurable with experience; full benefits offered. Normal work days are Tuesday -Saturday, 10am to 6pm.
