The Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM), an internationally acclaimed contemporary art museum in Philadelphia, seeks a full-time Museum Education Coordinator to broaden the understanding of contemporary art practices through educational and public programming. The Museum Education Coordinator organizes two programs: Public Programs and the High School Apprentice Training Program and in a 60/40 divide. The primary role of the Museum Education Coordinator is to coordinate a range of Public Programs—from artist talks and panel discussions to family and teen events—that expand and deepen FWM’s audience experience. Additionally, the Museum Education Coordinator runs the High School Apprentice Training Program, an after-school art program that trains students to design their own screen-printed textiles in three, twelve-week sessions annually. This position reports directly to the Director of Education.
Public Program Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Education Department to create Public Programs that support the exhibition schedule and FWM’s mission
Work closely with Director of Education, Communications Manager, Director of Facilities, and other staff as required to coordinate all aspects of Public Programs, including:
Draft guest speaker invitation and event descriptions
Select preliminary promotion images
Research outside organizations for partnerships
Schedule site visits for onsite and offsite events
Identify and coordinate dates for Public Programs and maintain event calendar
Create run of show for each event and coordinate additional event staffing
Order supplies and track Program budget and expenses
High School Apprentice Training Program Responsibilities
Coordinate all aspects of the High School Apprentice Training Program, including:
Educate and evaluate High School Apprentices in their artistic and professional development within the museum setting
Each term, recruit, interview, and hire participants for the High School Apprentice Training Program
Train 15-18 High School Apprentices annually in repeat pattern design, hand screen printing, and museum education activities
Mentor High School Apprentices in their portfolio development for college applications and write letters of recommendation
Order supplies and track Program budget and expenses
MFA in Studio Art or MA in Museum Education preferred, Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art or Education required
Minimum two years’ museum education experience
Experience with screen printing and other art making techniques, as well as demonstrated knowledge of contemporary art and fine art practices
Excellent written, oral communication, organizational, and problem solving skills, with keen attention to detail
Self-motivated, flexible, and dedicated
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, with the ability to learn additional computer/technical skills as needed
Ability to work on several projects at once and change priorities on short notice
Ability to interact effectively with co-workers and managers
