Lyles & King seeks a hardworking, detail-oriented Associate Director. This role is ideal for someone eager to participate in all areas of exhibition-making and managing the day to day of a young, growing Lower East Side gallery. Applicants should find pleasure and meaning in working with artists.

Qualified applicants will have 2-4 years of experience working in a commercial gallery, museum, auction house, or arts-related setting. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and has experience multi-tasking and meeting deadlines. The successful candidate possesses an acute attention to detail, has a positive attitude, and is an excellent communicator.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with planning, organizing and realizing exhibitions by gallery artists. This includes managing all logistics of shipping, installation, and consignments.

  • Managing domestic and international shipments for exhibitions, art fairs, and clients.

  • Assisting with art fair applications as well as managing all art fair logistics.

  • Managing administrative tasks, from ensuring artists’ cvs and the gallery website are all up-to-date to writing press releases to ordering office supplies.

  • Assisting with sales offers and client meetings when needed.

  • Database management: using Artlogic to manage gallery inventory.

  • Creating and updating artist dossiers and press materials.

  • Answering phone calls and greeting visitors.

Requirements

Applicant must have the following skills and personal traits:

  • A positive attitude.

  • Excellent social, writing and speaking skills.

  • In depth knowledge of contemporary art and art history.

  • A habit of attending gallery openings and visiting gallery exhibitions.

  • A collaborative spirit.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred candidates will be versed in:

  • Adobe Photoshop.

  • Database programs such as Artlogic or Artbinder.

  • Mac operating system.

  • Website management.

Position is Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30am - 6:00pm with additional hours as needed for exhibition openings, art fairs, and other events. Salary commensurate with experience.
