Art Conservation Lab located in downtown Chicago is searching for a full time Conservation Apprentice. Apprenticeship is a paid position with benefits and lasts approximately 3 to 5 years. This is a full time permanent position and the applicant should be committed to staying long term.

Responsibilities

Approximately 2 to 3 days per week will be spent completing general lab maintenance while learning conservation and restoration techniques through a gradual, hands-on process.

Requirements

Minimum requirements for applying include: BFA degree, basic computer skills, portfolio demonstrating significant level of artistic skill in drawing, painting, printmaking, and/or photography (film), knowledge of art materials and techniques. Applicant should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and willing to complete menial tasks.

Preferred Candidate will have a master’s degree in fine arts, strong foundation in color theory, superior draftsmanship abilities, and an eagerness to learn. He/She will also have at least 5 years experience in the professional fine arts field with hands-on time with delicate and antique art materials.
