The Norton Museum of Art is engaged in a major expansion that will significantly enhance the Museum’s program opportunities and potential for community engagement. At this juncture, the Museum is seeking an Associate Curator of Education for Public Programs who will build upon current strengths and develop new programs in concert with the Education Department’s recently completed Long-range Plan. This is a full time, exempt position reporting to the Curator of Education.

Responsibilities
  • Serves with Associate Curators for School and Teacher Programs and for Family and Outreach Programs as management team responsible for implementing the long-range plan for the Education Department adopted by Board of Directors in 201

  • Hires and supervises the Art After Dark Coordinator who manages the weekly evening Approves Art After Dark schedules to ensure quality, innovation and diversity of offerings for these evenings.

  • Plans with the Curatorial team, Curator of Education and Davis Fellow and is responsible for the schedule of public programs related to the Museum collection and special exhibits. These include lectures, panels and symposia, interdisciplinary arts/studio arts workshops and visiting scholars’ programs. Coordinates logistics for these program, including travel, lodging and honoraria for visiting speakers and artists. Introduces and oversees these programs.

  • Participates with other educators in preparing and presenting A Closer Look public gallery talks, Member Insights talks, Art101 mini-courses, and Book + Art sessions with the PBC Public Also offers public lectures and tours on the collection, as needed, at the Museum and in the community.

  • Serves as a liaison with the area college administrators and professors to enhance the use of the Museum as a resource for Promotes, recruits and manages college committee (autumn, 2019) and college interns.

  • Re-initiates Summer Intern Program by promoting nationally (fall of 2018), then interviewing and managing 4 college interns through the seven-week program in summer of 201

  • Leads docent education sessions for new docent candidates as well as for continuing

  • Develops content for mobile tours, and participates in development of other digital technology for public

  • Works with Communications and Design to develop promotional materials for public

Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Art History

  • Five (5) years’ experience in the field of Museum Education

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, adaptable to learn new software

The successful candidate must be an exceptional communicator through written communications and public speaking. Must be a team player with a positive attitude, able to balance roles as an educator, administrator and manager. Bi-lingual skills (English-Spanish) a plus.
