The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) seeks a Student Care Coordinator. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Student Care Coordinator has the primary responsibility of connecting students with health and wellness services, including clinical mental health and counseling support services, wellness coaching, sexual health support services, and other care-related needs. As a member of the Student Services Department, the Student Care Coordinator will promote diverse options of resources available and increase awareness of mental and physical wellness to support and retain students.
Provide initial assessment for students needing support, and refer students to care as is necessary and appropriate
Serve as a primary point-of-contact for coordinating and facilitating both internal and external resource referrals for students
Promote and publicize available accommodations, services and supports to all students
Act as the lead liaison with Penn Behavioral Health—for student counseling, facilitating student access, maximizing usage, improving communication
Serve on CARE team for tracking students of concern
Design, implement and evaluate programs, initiative, and activities to support the health and well-being of students
Create awareness and reduce stigma around mental health issues; ask about and address barriers to getting professional help
Proactively reach out to at-risk students for support and intervention and maintain contact while students connect with off-campus care
Provides support for faculty and staff who are working with students in distress
Provide crisis counseling and intervention for students as necessary, in the process of guiding students to off-campus crisis resources
Assist students with paperwork and phone calls needed to connect with care
Respond to after-hours and/or weekend emergencies on a limited basis, as part of an on-call rotation
Explore and partner with off-campus resources for an expanded network of student support
Develop and maintain a webpage of online resources
Assist with the support for student with disabilities, serving as a student contact, and being knowledgeable about relevant policies, laws, and best practices
Remain knowledgeable about trends in student development and supporting the “whole” student
Masters degree in counseling, social work or a related field required
Minimum of two years position-related experience required; experience in higher education setting highly desirable
Knowledge of advising and counseling theory, techniques and practice
Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and supporting diversity; able to work with diverse populations and relate well to people of all ages and backgrounds
Ability to exercise sound judgment, be a creative problem solver and excellent troubleshooter
Communicate effectively in-person, by telephone and email with varied individuals
Ability to succeed in a team-focused environment, and work independently
Proficiency in MS Office, word processing, and spreadsheet programs
Maintain a customer, student service focus
Strong analytic reasoning skills
Be extremely detail-oriented, organized, and have the ability to handle multiple priorities
Experience with web editing software helpful
