Andrea Rosen Gallery is seeking a highly motivated and rigorous individual in search of a meaningful position, to join its core team. This individual will support senior staff as an Administrative Associate, engaging with all aspects of the gallery’s activities, with a concentration on becoming deeply knowledgeable in the work of Felix Gonzalez-Torres and involved in the representation of this artist, as well as all aspects of the gallery’s activities.
Andrea Rosen Gallery was inaugurated in January 1990, with a seminal exhibition of work by Gonzalez-Torres, whose practice has set the ideological agenda of the gallery in diverse ways. Since its major transition in 2017, the program of Andrea Rosen Gallery has two main aspects: representing Gonzalez-Torres, and a multifaceted effort to channel the intellectual rigor and openness of the art world as a means to develop content and meaning across disciplinary fields, both inside and outside the art world – which entails working with diverse individuals who see themselves as role models for developing new institutional, social, economic, and artistic models.
As the engaged and quick-thinking individual in this position will have privileged access to the principal’s email and calendar, most of which is directly correlated to the gallery’s core activities, responsibilities will encompass handling some external queries, ongoing administrative projects, and some personal tasks. The position’s primary responsibilities will be to act as a conduit for the senior staff around exhibitions, critical writing, sales, and the complexity of Gonzalez-Torres’s work. As this Associate will be a primary point person for fielding incoming communication, an astute ability to assimilate and filter information is essential. The gallery is exceptionally team-oriented; while individual staff each have their own expertise, many of the gallery’s activities are distributed among its staff.
A successful candidate will have experience working in a gallery and an aptitude for managing activities such as sales, artist relations, and client relations, coupled with a desire to engage in generating meaningful content, both inside and outside of traditional models.
