PHOTOFAIRS | Shanghai is an art fair dedicated to photography and new media which takes place at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. The annual September event is part of the World Photography Organisation, who also run the Sony World Photography Awards and is a subsidiary of the Angus Montgomery Group who run Sydney Contemporary, Taipei Dangdai, Art India and Art Central Hong Kong.

The job holder will work closely with the Fair Director to build relationships with galleries in Asia Pacific with a view to have on-going recruitment of galleries for the fair.

Responsibilities

Behaviours & Knowledge

  • Strong gallery and art knowledge

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Fluent in Chinese and English

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ensuring good communications between the departments.

  • Ensure good communication with galleries and shareholders.

  • Managerial experience gained working in a gallery, auction house or art fair or other relevant experience.

  • Experience of working with graphic packages including Indesign and Illustrator

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver gallery sales for PHOTOFAIRS | Shanghai;

  • Work with participating galleries to ensure additional programme opportunities at the fair;

  • Work with production team to ensure smooth handling and preparation of galleries pre, during and post Fair;

  • Work with Fair Director to build public programming with Galleries;

  • Work with Fair Director & VIP Manager to build additional VIP programming from local galleries and institutions;

Requirements
  • Fluent in English and Mandarine and/or Cantonese

  • Technically competent with various software programs, such as Word, Excel, Filemaker, PowerPoint etc;

  • One to two years of experience in an administrative support role, sales role, and/or projects-related role;

  • A clear track record of sales either in an art fair environment or in a gallery;

  • Educated to undergraduate degree level or relevant level of experience within the workplace;

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
