The Kansas City Art Institute, a national leader in visual arts education, seeks nominations and applications for a full-time Assistant Professor tenure-track position in Animation to begin August of 2019. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the further development of the current Animation Department curriculum, which will include a new studio complex in 2020.


Requirements
  • The successful candidate’s qualifications and professional experience should demonstrate a vibrant and diverse body of work in animation with a primary focus in 3D methodologies and associated production skills are required (both specialists & generalists are encouraged). Additionally, the candidate should be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the animation field and have a working knowledge of animation history.  Applicants should be conversant with the constraints of current professional practice in the field.


  • The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and theoretical foundation, as well as an expansive approach that embraces the evolving role of the moving image in society. The animation curriculum is closely aligned with that of filmmaking with sharing elective possibilities in sound and other related skill acquisition. Knowledge of software for instruction includes: Maya, Cinema 4D, Adobe After Effects and the CC Suite of software.


  • The position requires the capacity to develop curriculum, establish infrastructure and the implementation of elective offerings serving both the department and the college. Candidates must possess an ability to instruct and advise students in developing a professional practice in the field of animation. Excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong collaborative spirit for teamwork and service to the department, institution, and field are imperative.


Education and Experience Requirements


  • An MFA and demonstrated professional achievement in the field with full-time college-level teaching experience required.
