The School of the Art+Design at Purchase College, SUNY seeks candidates for the position of 3D Media Instructional Support Manager.

The successful candidate will be a flexible, inquisitive and reliable individual fluent in a broad range of traditional and contemporary sculptural and 3D processes and techniques. This instructional support position will be responsible for the management of multiple 3D related facilities in support of curricular related programs. These facilities include areas that support processes such as: metal fabrication and casting, wood, ceramics, plaster, digital fabrication, spray finishing, instructional spaces, and student studios.

There may be opportunities for teaching within the School of Art+Design.

The position reports to the Operations Manager of the School of Art+Design, and supervises the 3D Media Instructional Support Associate.

The base salary for the position will be $52,000 - $54,668 depending on experience. This is an in-person position located in Purchase, NY, commencing with the Spring 2023 semester. We offer yearly union contract-negotiated pay increases and potential for permanency. Responsibilities

Administrative duties will include budget management; material, supply, and equipment procurement and tracking; staff and student supervision; planning for facilities upgrades; and serving on technical and school wide committees.

The 3D Media Instructional Support Manager will be a participatory member in the Sculpture Department. Working with a team of instructional staff supporting academic programs in the School of Art+Design, this staff member will also interface with other areas of study within the School that rely on the facilities, processes, and equipment supported by this position. This position regularly communicates with a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students. The Manager provides demonstrations and lessons for safe use of 3D facilities and develops and delivers workshops on various 3D production techniques to students, faculty, and staff.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Highly proficient in areas of both Wood and Metal shop fabrication, with addition proficiency in Casting/foundry, CNC rapid prototyping (additive and/or subtractive), Digital Fabrication, Ceramics

  • Capability to repair and maintain fabrication tools

  • MFA or equivalent professional experience in professional fabrication or a related field

  • Familiarity with health and safety compliance regulations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four or more years of related production and technical support experience

  • Experience in a professional arts school setting in higher education

  • Supervisory experience
