The Cleveland Museum of Art seeks a highly motivated individual to help oversee the display, interpretation, and growth of the museum’s collection of contemporary art.

Working under the direction of the Curator of Contemporary Art, the Assistant/Associate Curator will assist in the stewardship, programming and development of the museum’s contemporary collection, and in the organization of special exhibitions at the museum and the Transformer Station, a contemporary art space on the west side of Cleveland.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include the interpretation and presentation of the permanent collection; the development and coordination of special exhibitions and programs; research and publication related to the collection and special exhibitions; assisting with acquisitions; educational programming; and donor relations. M.A. in Art History or related field required; PhD preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of three years relevant experience.

Requirements

Candidates should possess extensive knowledge of contemporary art from 1960 to the present, a broad familiarity with the art of the 20th century, a demonstrated knowledge of museum practices, excellent research, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and enthusiasm about serving diverse public constituencies. Candidates should be skilled at building effective relationships across museum departments and invested in collaboration and teamwork.
