Cuttyhunk Historical Society (CHS) seeks a Collections professional to develop a program of management, organization, care, and safe-keeping for archival, library, and artifact collections at Museum of the Elizabeth Islands, a seasonal museum located on Cuttyhunk Island. The position is temporary (mid-May through late June, 2019) and may renew, depending on funding. Furnished housing is provided on-island during the work period.

Responsibilities:

The Collections Project Manager will work collaboratively with board members and volunteers in guiding on-going inventory efforts and the continued improvement and implementation of collections-related policies and procedures.

  • The Project Manager will identify needs, analyze space and storage requirements, and set preservations goals.

  • The supervision of CHS’s PastPerfect database, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and security, is a critical function.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years experience (paid or volunteer) in an archive, library, or museum.

  • Knowledge of archival management theory and best practices, related to both analog and digital collections, is required.

  • the ability to prioritize projects, strong problem-solving skills, a collaborative working style, excellent time management, and attention to detail are key.

  • Experience cataloguing collections is required; experience with photographic collections, paper records, multi-media, and knowledge of metadata management is preferred.

  • Strong computer skills with Apple and PC platforms.
