Cuttyhunk Historical Society (CHS) seeks a Collections professional to develop a program of management, organization, care, and safe-keeping for archival, library, and artifact collections at Museum of the Elizabeth Islands, a seasonal museum located on Cuttyhunk Island. The position is temporary (mid-May through late June, 2019) and may renew, depending on funding. Furnished housing is provided on-island during the work period.
Responsibilities:
The Collections Project Manager will work collaboratively with board members and volunteers in guiding on-going inventory efforts and the continued improvement and implementation of collections-related policies and procedures.
The Project Manager will identify needs, analyze space and storage requirements, and set preservations goals.
The supervision of CHS’s PastPerfect database, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and security, is a critical function.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years experience (paid or volunteer) in an archive, library, or museum.
Knowledge of archival management theory and best practices, related to both analog and digital collections, is required.
the ability to prioritize projects, strong problem-solving skills, a collaborative working style, excellent time management, and attention to detail are key.
Experience cataloguing collections is required; experience with photographic collections, paper records, multi-media, and knowledge of metadata management is preferred.
Strong computer skills with Apple and PC platforms.
