The Communications department facilitates knowledge of and engagement with the Studio Museum’s mission and content. The department stewards the Museum’s brand; creates, edits, designs, and disseminates content on multiple analog and digital channels; and works with all Museum departments on content strategy and institutional messaging.

The Digital Communications Manager manages the Museum’s digital presence. The Manager supervises the production and distribution of high-quality and engaging digital content to diverse museum constituencies.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Museum’s online platforms, including website, social media, email, and partner sites/initiatives

  • Maintain brand presence, quality, and consistency across platforms

  • Act as the webmaster for studiomuseum.org; coordinate with outside contractors and the Museum’s Technology Department to manage website design, accessibility, maintenance, growth and API (Application Programming Interface) integrations

  • Manage the creation, compiling, editing and uploading of content (including but not limited to copy, images, and multimedia)

  • Track and analyze website, social, and paid search metrics

  • Collaborate on cross-departmental technology initiatives

  • Participate in planning for future digital initiatives and technologies

  • Oversee SEO (Search Engine Optimization), SEM (Search Engine Marketing), digital advertising, and other paid media efforts

  • Supervise Marketing Coordinator, instructing them on departmental procedures and activities and devising individual projects for them

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital design, computer science, art history or other related field required

  • Strong understanding of how the internet, websites, and social media platforms function, particularly in a museum context

  • Strong writing and editing skills

  • Digital project management experience, including past participation in entire software development lifecycle

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills paired with a positive attitude essential.

  • Excellent computer skills required, including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft platforms and content management systems, preferably Drupal and/or WordPress
