The New York Times Parenting team is looking for an experienced Visuals Editor to create and source photography, artwork, and graphics for our forthcoming new product. You will play a central role in defining—and be responsible for executing on—the visual sensibility of our product.

This person will be working with the New Products and Ventures group, whose successful products include NYT Cooking and NYT Crosswords. We are a small, cross-functional team. You will collaborate with design, editorial, product, and marketing to create a beautiful and engaging product with a visual language that stands out in the parenting space.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with editors and designers to develop story concepts into visuals that are exciting to our users.

  • Manage art for editorial calendar across a variety of formats and channels, including web, mobile, social, and newsletter

  • Ensure the creation of unique editorial digital experiences for special projects in formats including: illustration, photography, and animations

  • Assign original photography and artwork from photographers, illustrators, designers, animators and other creative partners

  • Negotiate rights and usage to procure photography and illustration

  • Oversee original photo production, including photo shoots and cropping and optimizing photos across channels

  • Collaborate with the design team on execution of the product, and marketing on campaigns and product launches

  • Work on tight deadlines to create a sharp relationship between images and copy

  • Forge relationships, as needed, with other visual units at The Times, including video, graphics, and photo

  • Train and manage support staff

Requirements

You should have:

  • 5+ years related experience in digital product/media environment

  • Sharp eye for talent and ability to recruit a diverse pool of photographers and illustrators

  • Experience in handling photo rights and rates, legal issues, and digital best practices

  • Adept at distributing images on across channels (social, web, mobile)

  • Experience using content management systems

  • Expertise in development of interactive graphics

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
