Provides leadership of the curatorial team and managerial oversight of The Baker Museum’s exhibitions and collections. Responsible for the administration, coordination, successful implementation, and all operational aspects of curatorial affairs.

Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the Museum Director & Chief Curator to shape a dynamic exhibition program that advances the mission and strategic goals.

  • Achieve high standards for creativity, audience engagement and scholarship.

  • Assist in the stewardship, programming and development of The Baker Museum’s important holdings in the fields of American, Mexican, and European Modernism.

  • Conceive and organize well researched, exciting, and original exhibitions and programs with works drawn from the permanent collection.

  • In partnership with the Museum Director & Chief Curator, assist in the growth of the collection by cultivating relationships with donors and collectors, proposing acquisitions and preparing art donation proposals.

  • Implement new and innovative strategies in the context of the museum’s ambitious exhibition program. Oversee the collecting activities of the museum and evaluate works for accession and de-accession.

  • Provide lectures on aspects of and exhibitions from the permanent collection.

  • Develop and coordinate companion exhibitions and programs in the context of loan exhibitions.

  • Prepare and manage museum budgets to financial expectations.

  • Write artist biographies and texts for exhibition catalogues and brochures. Prepare texts for wall panels and object labels.

  • Oversee the development of catalogues and other exhibition publications with marketing team.

  • As Museum liaison, collaborate internally with all Artis—Naples departments and with Museum docents.

  • Observe safety requirements. Report safety issues and items requiring work orders to Supervisor or Security.

  • Work effectively with all Artis—Naples team members.

Requirements
  • M.A. in Art History or related discipline required, PhD preferred.

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in the field.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Critical and creative thinking skills that embrace innovative approaches to advance the reputation of The Baker Museum as a leading museum both nationally and globally.

  • Experience with developing and/or implementing collaborative projects with cross-institutional teams and through community outreach.

  • Ability to prioritize and achieve goals, meet deadlines, and work independently while showing initiative with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple exhibitions and projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to form and maintain successful working relationships with team members, artists, lenders, tour venues and other external contacts.

  • Proficiency in Spanish desired.
