Reporting directly to the Program Director of Jazz and the Deputy Director for Programs at South Arts, the Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in implementing the program Jazz Road and other South Arts programming including, but not limited to, grants, research, convenings, services and activities in all art forms. This is a new position based within the organization in Atlanta, Georgia. It is funded for three years.

South Arts’ mission is Advancing Southern vitality through the arts. South Arts is a nonprofit regional arts organization founded in 1975 to build on the South’s unique heritage and enhance the public value of the arts. South Arts’ work responds to the arts environment and cultural trends with regional perspective. South Arts’ offers an annual portfolio of activities designed to address the role of the arts in impacting the issues important to our region, and to link the South with the nation and the world through the arts. The organization works in partnership with the state arts agencies of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. It is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, member states, foundations, businesses and individuals.

Responsibilities

This position will primarily support the creation and implementation of a jazz touring and residency focused national program for individual jazz artists. Program elements include identifying emerging and mid-career jazz artists and connecting them with traditional and alternative presenters throughout the US for tour and residency projects. The position will also assist with other South Arts programmatic activities for both individual artists and organizations. The position’s responsibilities include communications, data management, grants management, travel planning, research and customer service.

Bachelor’s degree in arts administration and/or jazz studies preferred or equivalent experience in a relevant field. Minimum of one year’s experience in arts administration and/or music presenting or touring is required. Knowledge of or passion for the current jazz ecosystem – artists, presenters, agents, and media – is preferred.

BENEFITS. Salary range is $32,000-35,000. For a full-time employee hire, South Arts offers an excellent benefits package that includes health, dental, and life insurance; long and short term disability; vacation; and 403(b) plan with company match.

Requirements

ï‚· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

ï‚· Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

ï‚· Ability to establish priorities and manage numerous assignments simultaneously

ï‚· Knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel)

ï‚· Experience conducting internet-based research

ï‚· Social media experience including, but not limited to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

ï‚· Zoom (video conferencing), and Sales Force/CSM database experience a plus

ï‚· Online grants management experience a plus

ï‚· Experience working with musicians or in the music sector a plus

ADDITIONAL. Ability to carry out detailed and complex instructions; ability to interact with coworkers and public by telephone, via email, and in person; ability to perform a variety of duties and to prioritize tasks to meet organizational needs; ability to clearly and concisely exchange ideas, facts and/or technical information and guidance in person, by telephone, email or written correspondence. Essential requirements for successful communications include speaking, writing and reading comprehension. Limited travel may be required.
