The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is one of the finest museums on the West coast and is celebrated for the superb quality of its permanent collection. Its mission is to integrate art into the lives of people through internationally recognized exhibitions special programs, as well as the thoughtful presentation of its permanent collection.
The Museum seeks a Curatorial Assistant to provide general administrative, clerical, and research assistance to the Curator of Photography and New Media. The Curatorial Assistant provides assistance in the following areas: research and cataloguing of the permanent collection; exhibition preparation (research, generation of checklists, assistance with exhibition design oversight, didactics, and publicity materials; maintaining schedules and files); clerical assistance (including telephone inquiries and correspondence); and serving as liaison with other Museum departments, visitors, and patrons.
Requires superior organizational and communication skills, general knowledge of art history (specialization in the history of photography preferred), excellent research and writing skills. Must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and basic photo editing. Knowledge of TMS collection database software is a plus. Proofreading skills as well as thoroughness and attention to detail in general are also required. BA in Art History required; 1 – 3 previous museum experience a plus. MA and experience with teaching and public speaking are appreciated.
- Schedule: Regular, Full-time, at 40 hours per week
Compensation: $21.00/hour
