The Technical Instructor in Design contributes to the creative and educational mission of the section as a hands-on designer and teacher. The responsibilities of the Technical Instructor in Sound Design will be divided into three areas: as a creator and teacher of the Music and Theater Arts (MTA) sound design curriculum; as a sound designer for faculty-led productions; and participating in the operation our new MTA facility, W97. In the course of an academic year, a Technical Instructor teaches 3 undergraduate courses and designs 2 faculty-directed student productions. Additional responsibilities include mentoring independent student projects and supporting studio presentations and theater arts classes.

Requirements

BA, BFA, or MFA in relevant field. Demonstrable excellence in teaching at the university level and/or professional mentorship in the field. Area of specialization in Sound Design for live performance. Successful candidates will demonstrate creative excellence in the field of sound design and have an extensive artistic portfolio. Ideal candidates may have experience in sound installation, composing, and/or innovative sound technology. Candidates must be conversant in industry standard computer software such as QLab, Logic, and ProTools.

A secondary design area (set, costume, lighting, video) or additional creative focus such as music composition, film and video game scoring, is preferred but not required.

Candidates are encouraged to take an expansive definition of sound design in their portfolio. Please include a syllabus for two classes that you have taught or would like to teach. Teaching evaluations to be provided if available.
