collecting, and exhibiting art, architecture, and design.

Responsibilities

As a key member of the Queens Museum’s Facilities and Maintenance Team Facilities Assistant will work closely with the Facilities Manager to assist with daily maintenance and operations of the Museum in supporting the building’s physical integrity and functioning and in ensuring that the physical plant meets the standards necessary to insure the safety of the collection, exhibitions, staff and public.

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Specific Responsibilities

  • General repair work as needed throughout the premises

  • Keeping up a tool inventory; repair malfunctioning tools

  • Partnership Gallery Preparation - paint and spackle

  • Carpentry work as needed

  • Touch-up paint

  • Simple Plumbing repair such as sink drain clogs

  • Facility light bulb change, including office lights, exit signs, and Panorama model bulbs

  • Basic electrical work - i.e. outlet and switch replacement

  • Equipment Maintenance - scissor lifts, floor scrubber, museum van

  • Woodshop upkeep

  • Office cubicle reconfiguration as needed

  • Assist with fire extinguisher inspection

  • Attain S-95 certificate

  • Snow removal responsibilities

  • Create requisitions

  • Assist Facilities Manager as required

Requirements

Essential

  • Two or more years relevant experience

  • Interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with all staff regarding safety and maintenance of the building

  • Valid Driver’s license required

  • Working knowledge of OSHA

  • Must be able to perform the duties of the position; working to maintain a 100,000 square ft. building including climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs.,

  • Comfortable using various types of lifts up to 40 feet

Desirable

  • Work experience in a museum, theater or cultural space

  • Experience with handling and transporting artwork

  • Possession of Certificates of Fitness from FDNY
