The Bibliotheca Hertziana is one of more than eighty institutes of the Max Planck Society and an internationally leading research center for the history of art. It provides excellent working conditions for its scientists and promotes the application of digital methods in the humanities.

The Bibliotheca Hertziana intends to further develop the digital support of scientific projects by developing and integrating their digital infrastructures, thereby giving new international impetus to digital art science.

As a Digital Publications Manager you will build up the field of digital science publications. In doing so, you will work closely with the Board of Directors, the Editorial and Public Relations Department, the scientific DH department of the Institute and the scientists.

Responsibilities
  • the design, setup and maintenance of digital publishing infrastructures due to developments in the scientific IT department;

  • the comprehensive establishment of standards and best practices for the software-based publication of scientific texts at the institute;

  • the harmonization of publication procedures and interfaces between the work areas library, photo library, research databases;

  • the retro-digitization of previous publications of the Bibliotheca Hertziana and the development of a strategy for the digitization of existing and new publication formats (periodical, monograph, anthology, etc.);

  • cooperation with several partner institutions within and outside the MPG;

  • Advice for and support of cross-departmental and individual publication projects;

  • Editing of scientific texts (English, German and / or Italian)

possibly development and co-editing of a new interdisciplinary online journal;

  • active participation in the methodological discussions in the Digital Humanities.
Requirements
  • a completed academic degree in art history or related humanities with a degree, with experience in or interest in the Digital Humanities;

  • Competence and experience in editing texts;

  • great experience in the use of software needed for editorial and publishing work;

  • a high degree of organizational, team and communication skills;

  • Experience in project management, especially with modern and agile approaches to the management of projects;

  • a strong motivation to find solutions, a highly result-oriented and at the same time structured and self-responsible way of working;

  • very good knowledge of English and good knowledge of German or Italian.
