The Individual Giving Officer is a key member of the Development team responsible for undertaking the multi-million-dollar fundraising effort that will implement the strategic plan and launch the Gardner’s exciting next chapter. Working closely with the Chief External Engagement Officer, Director of Individual Giving and Advancement, and Director of Prospect Management, Stewardship & Operations, the Individual Giving Officer will help to develop strategies and drive activity to support fundraising targets for general operating and restricted giving, as well as be an integral part of the work in stewarding and growing the museum’s constituencies and creating a broader base of support. Specifically, the Individual Giving Officer will be responsible for a portfolio of 150-200 constituents, and will qualify prospects and participate in visits, cultivation events, and solicitations—taking charge of every aspect of engagement and stewardship for the portfolio.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active portfolio of approximately 150-200 donors; develop and implement management strategies for qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting those donors

  • Build relationships with donors and prospects via personal visits, phone calls, ongoing written contact, and events

  • Acquire and maintain a strong knowledge of ISGM’s work in order to educate and inform prospective and existing donors

  • Draft personalized correspondence and acknowledgments

  • Aid in identification of new prospects and donors in the region

  • Assist with proposal development for major gifts, as appropriate

  • Record meetings and interactions with donors in the donor database

  • Solicit and close outright gifts

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ related work experience or equivalent

  • Passion for the arts and intellectual curiosity a must

  • Professional understanding of fundraising processes and database record-keeping policies

  • Experience using effective interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy, and tact to build strong relationships with donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff

  • Ability to skillfully prioritize and manage a robust portfolio and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Capacity for absorbing and synthesizing complex program information and translating it into a compelling case for donors

  • Well-developed communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills

  • Aptitude to determine an individual’s interest, capacity, and inclination to help the ISGM meet its goals, and act appropriately to tie those interests with the ISGM’s work through suitable gift opportunities

  • Ability to accurately assess situations with informal or incomplete information and make good decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment; maintain confidentiality

  • Working knowledge of current trends in charitable giving

  • Comfort working independently and as a team member with initiative and flexibility

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with donor databases

  • Goal oriented and experience working in a collaborative team environment
