While no single candidate will possess all of the desired qualifications or characteristics here, La Peña invites you to apply if you possess the foundational skills and a commitment to seeing arts and culture advance through a social justice lens. Studies have shown that historically oppressed communities often apply to jobs only if they meet every qualification listed. La Peña seeks to skew this statistic. Non-traditional candidates are encouraged to apply as well, as La Peña is open to flexible arrangements (for example, a more experienced development and advancement worker might be considered for a 3-4 day/week role, if desired.) Please make your expectations clear and known in a cover letter for full consideration.

Experience/Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 yrs experience in a nonprofit setting. A minimum of 3 yrs experience in fundraising/development. A minimum of 2 years experience with project management or coordination. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred in a related field such as business administration, education etc.

Physical Demands:

The responsibilities and tasks associated with this position will require regularly sitting and viewing a computer, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, and occasional light (<10lbs) lifting. The majority of time will be remote-work, with in-person meetings and expectations an average of 1-2 days per week.

How to Apply

To Apply: Send your resume and cover letter to Jobs@lapena.org. Cover letter is mandatory. 1-2 short writing samples (1-2 page max) are welcomed but not required. Deadline for applications is Monday, October 23, 2023.

Additional Context:

La Peña is at a pivotal moment in its institutional history and is about to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding. It is a small organization with just six full-time staff members with a full multidisciplinary calendar of performances, screenings, and classes. It is also an organization that has remained at the center of social justice, resilience-building, and creative production across pan-Latinx and Caribbean diasporas and solidarity movements worldwide. As a result, there is a vital need to reposition the organization’s work with local and national supporters to fully communicate its intergenerational impact and value. This position will take a lead on obtaining general operating support and gift fulfillment, while supporting the Deputy Director on larger strategic fundraising initiatives related to La Peña’s archive, history, and position within the Bay Area artistic ecosystem at-large.
