Sterling Ruby Studio, located in Vernon / Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a full-time Archivist to join our team.

Hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. Salary is commensurate with experience. Excellent health and benefits package.

Responsibilities

Asset Management Workflow

  • With Admin Team, manage studio documentation processes

  • Work directly with photographer to ensure standards are communicated and maintained

  • Perform color-correction/image retouching

  • Processing and image selection with the artist

  • Ingests all studio assets and organizes per studio standards

  • Assets include: images, video, documents, project files

  • Organization includes: server, cloud storage, DAM, Artlogic, custom databases

  • Standards include: filing, key-wording, permissions/usage, metadata, and related internal notifications

  • Fulfills internal and external asset requests and distribution

Database Management

  • Ability to modify and maintain customized databases; and/or liaise with developers for customizations and maintenance

  • Works with Admin Team to:

  • Maintain the Collections Database

  • Onboard and train additional personnel in database use

Catalogue Raisonné

  • Comprehensive record-keeping related to:

  • Exhibition history (CV)

  • Literature references (Bibliography)

  • Provenance: Collections, auctions

Procedure/Standards for Organization

  • With Admin Team, maintain artwork categories, and dates and update the artist as necessary

  • Maintain and update the artist biography and bibliography as necessary; familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style

Archival Practice

  • Update and continue to establish standardized archival procedures within the studio

  • Oversee the long-term preservation, through appropriate and practical archival standards, of archival studio materials

  • Manage and maintain a physical and digital archive of artworks including videos, exhibition ephemera, and catalogs

  • Manages organization of studio library and database of books

Requirements
  • Extensive experience in digital asset and collections management

  • High level of proficiency in specifying and maintaining relational databases

  • At least 3-5 years experience in a similar role at a gallery, museum, studio, or adjacent environment

  • Ability to manage simultaneous workflows in a demanding, fast-paced environment

  • Image retouching experience strictly required
