This role develops digital models used for mold-making and construction of elements for site-specific installations, furnishings, and sculptures. This position will see a project from concept sketch to digital model, to fabrication with CNC or 3D printers, and ultimately participate in some hand finishing. The ideal candidate will have experience with traditional sculpting techniques while wanting to push the boundaries of sculpting using digital techniques. They need to be flexible, capable of taking on project responsibilities, and eager to explore new processes.

Responsibilities
  • Translate sketches into 3D models for fabrication & visualization.

  • Understand and be able to think through project construction.

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and manage deadlines.

  • Finish works at high levels of detail and push studio craftsmanship.

  • Must be able to work independently but able to accept direction and feedback.

  • Team player and communicator with a positive working attitude.

  • Assist with non-digital work, which can include glass enamel, rubber mold making, working with waxes for lost-wax bronze casting, assembling, and wiring lighting fixtures, and other fabrication methods.

Requirements
  • 4-year degree in a relevant art or design-build program.

  • Proficiency in Zbrush and Rhinoceros 3D is required, knowledge of Grasshopper or similar computational design skills are beneficial.

  • Experience 3D printing in FDM and SLA.

  • Ability to set tool paths and operate a CNC router, experience with RhinoCAM.

  • Knowledge of Metal casting and Ceramic methods is helpful.

  • Mold making experience is beneficial.

  • Expert knowledge of Adobe CC to communicate ideas and share technical drawings.

  • Proficiency creating drawings and renderings from 3D models and site plans. Clearly communicate assembly and care instructions.

  • Ability to read architectural plans.

  • Desire to learn new softwares and processes.

  • Spanish language skills are helpful but not required.
