PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Bring unique perspective to work as part of an active, collaborative, and creative Education Team, whilst ensuring accurate dissemination of information and a professional presentation of the resources, ideas, and people behind The Andy Warhol Museum. Artist/Educators develop and perform interpretive programs offered by the museum which include:

Engaging diverse groups and individuals in thematic conversations and activities in the museum’s galleries and studio (e.g. giving tours/workshops,Factory);

Developing and implementing programs with diverse communities and specific target audiences (e.g. outreach sessions/projects in schools and/or community centers and special programs/projects with particular groups e.g. after school program with teens);

Creating and contributing to the interpretive installations, education resources and public programming of the museum.

Continually engage in discourse and presentation as both artist and educator and practice ways to make connections with audiences and Warhol’s art and life, one’s own artistic practice, and current learning/education theory and practice.

Continually learn about Andy Warhol and the Museum Collections and archives as well as relevant social, artistic and cultural contexts.

Continually learn about needs and interests of visitors, potential audiences and communities and assist Education Team in keeping abreast of local community organizations, contacts, events issues and activities.

Create and manage implementation of one or more new projects or adaptations of/additions to an existing project per year that is at first reviewed/critiqued by the Education Team and is then presented as part of the museum’s interpretive programs.

Attend monthly departmental meetings and training sessions and occasionally present talks and/or organize training sessions and studio visits.

Assist with all department functions and manage individual projects as assigned by the Curator of Education and Senior Staff.

Train and supervise program volunteers and interns.

Maintain and uphold the Education Department’s standards of Excellence and Equity in order to represent the Department and The Andy Warhol Museum in a professional manner within the Museum, the Institute, to our diverse audiences and communities and to the education field.

Artists/Educators will be expected to read from a core list of books, reference materials and to familiarize themselves with the museum and its resources and activities as part of their 30 hours of training. Afterwards they may make use of any available non-teaching/non-development time to continue their learning. Artist/Educators will be expected to spend additional time learning and reading about Warhol, related topics and research, education and contemporary issues on their own time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in fine arts, media, art history, education, museum studies, or related field required

1-2 years of teaching experience in school studio and/or community settings, required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse audiences.

Artistic practice that includes community-based work, relates in some way to Warhol through medium, theme, or process.

Love of learning and art and a concern for how both can enhance quality of life.

Flexibility, strong creative and collaborative skills, and willingness to work in an open and team-based environment.

An appreciation of Andy Warhol and a broad knowledge of contemporary art and/or relevant cultural and social issues preferred.

Valid driver’s license required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires speaking to and guiding large groups of people through the museum and facilitating studio programs in a diverse array of settings. Position may require independent travel to sites throughout the Pittsburgh region and transport of program supplies.
